Québec City French School

Collège Mérici is located in downtown Quebec City, within walking distance from Old Quebec, which is a UNESCO World Heritage and the site of most events and landmarks of cultural interest. The school is operated in the exceptional facilities of Collège Mérici.

Québec French Courses

All of our teachers are friendly, experienced, and qualified. Your classes will help enhance your speaking, listening, grammar, and general comprehension skills. Teachers often facilitate classroom discussions by using role-playing and games, and our teachers also incorporate current events and cultural materials into the curriculum to help make classes more interesting and relatable.

  • Open to all language levels, A0-B2
  • Placement test on the first Monday morning of class

  • Flexible course length (1 week minimum)
  • Classes held Monday to Friday
  • Language Certificate provided at end of course

Standard French Classes:

  • 20 group lessons per week (4 lessons daily)
  • Maximum 15 students per class

Intensive French Classes:

Focus on conversation. Recommended for those looking to enter a university in France or other French-speaking regions.

  • 30 group lessons per week (6 lessons daily)
  • 10 mini-group lessons per week (2 lessons daily)
  • Maximum 15 students per class

Super-Intensive French Classes:

Focus on conversation. Recommended for those looking to enter a university in France or other French-speaking regions.

  • 30 group lessons per week (6 lessons daily)
  • 10 mini-group lessons per week (2 lessons daily)

French Summer Program:

  • 20 group lessons per week (4 lessons daily) - PLUS
    • 15 hours of cooking classes per week (June 16th to July 25th) - OR
    • 15 hours of drama workshop per week (June 16th to July 25th) - OR
    • 15 hours of photography workshop per week (2 weeks - July 21st to Aug 1st)
  • 1 week minimum, except photography (2 weeks only)
  • Max. 15 students per class

French Volunteering:

  • Minimum 4 weeks
  • Standard French course in the morning
  • Volunteering in the afternoon
  • Unpaid social work (retirement home, community centre, homeless shelter, etc)
  • Intermediate French level required for most placements

French Internship:

  • Minimum 6 months, maximum 12 months
  • First half of the program: Intensive French course
  • Second half of the program: Paid part-time internship in the hospitality industry
  • Students must have reached a low intermediate French level before starting work
  • Preparation workshops
  • Surpervision and assistance during work experience
  • For visa purposes, total number of hours worked can not exceed total number of hours of French studies.

French Work Placement:

  • Working Holiday Visa required (except for Canadian citizens/permanent residents)
  • Option A - School placement (hospitality industry): program is minimum 6 months (3 months of lessons, 3 months of work)
  • Option B - Self placement: minimum 4 weeks of lessons, students find their own job afterwards
  • Intensive French course
  • Students must have reached a low intermediate French level before starting work

Live & Learn:

  • Study and live in the home of your own personal teacher.
  • 15, 20, 25 or 30 1 on 1 private lessons per week.

  • You will be sharing the apartment with 3 other international students.
  • All apartments are fully furnished.
  • There is a well equipped kitchen, shared bathroom facilities and living room.

Off-Campus Apartments (May 1 - Aug 23)

Facilities

  • Our off-campus residence is located a 10 minute bus ride away from the school.
  • You will have a private room and you will be sharing the bathrooms and partially equipped kitchen with the other students on your floor.
  • There is a cafeteria in the building.

Host Family Accomodation

Living with a local host family is the best way to immerse yourself fully in the language and culture. All our families are carefully selected and regularly visited to ensure high-quality standards. We choose only those with a genuine interest in international exchange.

All meals included within the homestay - you can also help out and learn the local cuisine first-hand in the process!

Our host families are spread throughout the region and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so book early to get the best locations!
